About
About SnapTara
SnapTara is a free photography shot idea generator. One press of a button gives you a concrete assignment to go and shoot — the kind of nudge that gets a camera out of the bag and a photographer out of a rut.
Why it exists
Creative block is the most common problem in photography, and it rarely comes from a lack of skill. It comes from standing in a familiar place and seeing nothing worth a frame. A specific assignment fixes that: it narrows the world down to one subject, one constraint, or one hour, and suddenly there is plenty to shoot. SnapTara was built to hand out those assignments instantly, with no account, no feed, and no cost.
What it does
- Prompt generator. Draws from a bank of more than a thousand hand written photography assignments covering street, portrait, macro, long exposure, minimalism, and more. Your recent ideas are kept on your own device so you can revisit them.
- Challenges. Themed multi day missions — a month of street photography, a fortnight chasing light, a week of minimalism — with one prompt a day and progress saved locally.
- Share cards. Turn any prompt into a clean image sized for Instagram, X, or Pinterest and take the assignment with you.
- This blog. Longer answers to the questions photographers search for, one shootable idea at a time, every Tuesday and Friday.
Who makes it
SnapTara is designed and maintained by Dark Haus Studio in Winnipeg, Canada, and built in the spirit of the darkroom: simple, tactile, and focused on the work. The whole tool runs in your browser — no sign up, nothing to install.
